Steve Appelman was the Royals interim coach for the 1996-97 season. Appelman had served as assistant coach for five seasons after the Maysville-Mason County merger. Appelman, a longtime assistant coach at Maysville, was the Bulldogs' head coach during their final season (1990-91). He guided Mason County to an 18-10 record.
